Player of the Year Nominees
It’s the best time of the year in Ohio high school basketball. There’s some incredible match-ups taking place this week as we wind down the OHSAA playoffs. Also this week, it’s time to vote for the Prep Hoops Ohio Player of the Year.
By measuring individual numbers and team success, our staff has narrowed down the nominees to five players.
Our staff will announce our pick on Friday. However, you also get to vote for the people’s pick.
The nominees are…
Kaleb Wesson (2017), 6’10” C
The Ohio State commit has never been in better shape, or shown more versatility than this season for the defending Division I State Champions. Westerville South’s big man is the most dominate force in Ohio, and is ranked #2 in the senior class (for now).
Kyle Young (2017), 6’7″ W/F
Massillon Jackson was widely considered the preseason favorite to win it all in Division I. The Polar Bears have stayed in contention, and the Butler commit is a big reason why. Young commands the defense’s attention from everywhere on the court, as he can score from all three levels.
BJ Duling (2017), 6’6″ W
Duling is possibly the most athletic wing in the senior class. He led Newark to a 21-1 record and the #3 spot in the final AP Poll. Duling is committed to play at Kent State.
Torrey Patton (2017), 6’4″ G
Patton is the leading scorer on a Trotwood-Madison team that could be argued is the best overall in Ohio. He’s a steady presence who flat out gets buckets. Patton had his best performance at Flyin’ to the Hoop against Prolific Prep, when he scored 36 points.
Dane Goodwin (2018), 6’5″ G
Our only non-senior nominee already has well over 1,000 points in what’s becoming a borderline historic career with Upper Arlington. Goodwin has led one of the best teams in the Columbus area this season and headlines the 2018 Ohio State recruiting class.
