Oregon Class 6A – All Tournament Teams
As the OSAA 6A State Tournament has wrapped up, we take a look at who made our All Tournament Team. The list includes some anticipated standouts as well as some unexpected role players who stepped up big!
MVP: Elijah Gonzalez Clackamas HS
The electric 5’9 senior point guard cemented his claim to state player of the year honors with his performance in leading Clackamas to the state title game for the second time in school history. He averaged 31 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists a game while shooting 54% from the field and 87% from the line. Truly a historic performance and one that has to have Portland State head coach Tyler Geving excited as Gonzalez moves on to play for the Vikings next season.
ALL TOURNAMENT
Geno West Jefferson HS
The PIL player of the year was good in the first two Jefferson victories, but took his game up a level in the title game with a 28 point, 5 rebound, 4 assist performance to secure the Demos their first 6A state title. The 6’3 West has yet to garner a D1 scholarship offer, but with his performance at the tournament, expect that to change in the near future.
Jake Estep Beaverton HS
The 6’4 junior wing impressed throughout the tournament on his way to averages of 21 points and 5 rebounds a game. The transfer from Tigard showed an improved ability to score off the dribble to go along with his shooting ability. Estep lead Beaverton to their first state tournament trophy in over 15 years.
Braden Olsen West Linn HS
The floor leader for the 3rd place Lions, finished the tournament with averages of 14 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Olsen played in his 4th state tournament as part of the West Linn program and was the guy who made the Lions go all season, effectively getting the ball to a variety of talented offensive players.
Kyle Greeley West Salem HS
Usually when your team loses its first game, you slip into the consolation bracket without a lot of fanfare. Greeley’s play kept him on the radar of the coaches, media, and officials involved with the tournament. The 6’4 junior guard pushed the Titans to the first trophy (4th) in school history and averaged 25 points and 6.5 rebounds along the way. The Seattle University commit has set the table for a big senior season.
Thomas Miles Jefferson HS
Entering the tournament, Jefferson coach Pat Strickland referred to Miles as the Demos’ “glue guy”. Over the course of the state tournament, he proved to be all that and more. He averaged 14 points and 4 rebounds to go along with always drawing the other team’s best offensive player. His play over the 3 games should help raise his college recruiting profile.
HONORABLE MENTION
Matt O’Brien Clackamas HS
The 6’9 senior post played his best on the big stage, averaging 15 points and 10.5 rebounds in the semifinal and championship games.
Cole Turner Clackamas HS
The athletic ability of the 6’6 junior forward was on display throughout the weekend. It’s easy to see why Turner is considered one of the top wide receiver prospects on the west coast as he averaged 15 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in the semis and title games. Expect Tuner to emerge as the leader on the floor next year as the Cavs attempt to build on this year’s tournament success.
Marcus Tshonis Jefferson HS
The 6’4 2019 wing, didn’t do anything too flashy over the weekend, he simply did whatever was needed to win. He played with a maturity beyond his years and routinely made the simple play that teammates and coaches appreciate.
Kamaka Hepa Jefferson HS
Hepa, the #1 ranked player in PrepHoops Oregon’s 2018 class list, is one of the most unselfish “stars” that Oregon has ever seen. His willingness to defer his game and shot attempts to his talented teammates was a huge factor in Jefferson’s championship.
Aaron Deloney Grant HS
All the dynamic sophomore guard did was average nearly 18 points and 5 rebounds per game for the young Generals. Grant may have arguably the most talented sophomore class in Oregon and behind the continued growth of Deloney we can expect them to make a legitimate title run next season.
Brad Allen North Medford HS
Despite the fact that his North Medford team was quickly eliminated, Allen impressed with his rebounding, post scoring, and physical play. He averaged 19 points and 10.5 rebounds in the tourney.
Khalid Thomas West Linn HS
The versatile 6’9 senior forward played solid on both ends of the floor throughout the tournament in helping the Lions secure a 3rd place finish.
Rodney Hounshell West Linn HS
The least heralded of West Linn’s talented starting five, Hounshell averaged 17.5 points a game in the first two games to pace the Lions, as well as playing solid perimeter defense.
