Metro Challenge Scouting: 2018 Part 3
HYATTSVILLE, MD — The fourth annual Metro Challenge showcased 60 of the best prospects from the greater Baltimore/Washington D.C. region at DeMatha Catholic High School on Saturday for a day of competition and exposure. It is time for our detailed scouting report on the event. Here is the final part of our 2018 scouting report! All stats referenced were provided courtesy of http://www.legitstats.com/
G JONATHAN PRESTON | RCCA ‘18
Jonathan Preston is a versatile player who does everything well, and has a some toughness. Preston can hit the 3 if left open, and is also a very good passer. The 6’5 wing is athletic, and a good rebounder from his position.
F/C DEVON FLOWERS | POTOMAC SCHOOL ‘18
Devon Flowers will be a very good defender at the college level if he makes it a point to assert himself and get stronger. The 6’9 forward is blessed with length and quick feet. Flowers is effective at defending in pick and roll situations. He hedges screens hard, and has good timing when contesting shots. We saw flashes of his strong motor at times, but it still needs to be more consistent.
G DONOVANN TOATLEY | RIVERDALE BAPTIST ‘18
Donovann Toatley is a highly skilled ball-handler, and creative scorer who can easily free himself up for open looks. Toatley makes tough shots look simple, and can change direction or pull up on a dime in transition. His playmaking skills are a work in progress, but Toatley defends well and has gotten much stronger when finishing in the paint.
F TYRESE SAMUEL | RIVERDALE BAPTIST ‘18
Tyrese Samuel boasts an intriguing skill-set to go along with size and athleticism at 6’9. The Canadian import has the potential to effectively guard several positions at the next level, but will need to add strength and a consistent motor. His decision making can be a bit questionable on the offensive end, but there’s no denying his raw talent.
PG TRE WOOD | ST. JOHN’S ‘18
Tre Wood is a pass-first playmaker with tremendous speed and quickness. Wood led the camp in assists, and gets into the paint almost any time he wants. Wood can pass with both hands, and takes pride in accurately delivering timely passes to open teammates. Wood can shoot the ball from the perimeter, and score in the paint. He will need to continue to improve his consistency, and decision making while developing a more reliable middle game.
F/C JERMAINE HARRIS | RCCA ‘18
Jermaine Harris is a workhorse with commendable athleticism and skill at 6’9. The Georgia native finished top five in rebounding, and offensive rebound average. Harris has a soft touch from the perimeter, but is probably best with his back to the basket.
F NATE ROBERTS | BREWSTER ACADEMY ‘18
Nate Roberts put on a show in the final game set. The 6’9 forward showcased a smooth touch from the perimeter, and an automatic mid range jumper. Roberts ran the floor with purpose, and demonstrated soft hands. He isn’t the most athletic big man, but Roberts will try to dunk everything around the rim with flair and power.
