Metro Challenge Scouting: 2018 Part 2
HYATTSVILLE, MD — The fourth annual Metro Challenge showcased 60 of the best prospects from the greater Baltimore/Washington D.C. region at DeMatha Catholic High School on Saturday for a day of competition and exposure. It is time for our detailed scouting report on the event. Here is part two of our 2018 scouting report! All stats referenced were provided courtesy of http://www.legitstats.com/
F DANIEL OLADAPO | BLADENSBURG ‘18
Daniel Oladapo stood out as a result of his strong work rate and solid fundamentals. Has good size at 6’7+, and displays good footwork. Will crash the offensive glass, and must be boxed out. Good hands. Needs to improve strength when finishing. Runs the floor constantly.
G NOAH LOCKE | MCDONOGH ‘18
Noah Locke is a gym rat. He was a late addition to camp, but didn’t mess around. While others took a break during lunch to eat, Locke was getting up extra shots. He’s a great pull up shooter. Gets good rotation, and his shot looks the same every time. Locke can be explosive, but is more fundamental than anything. Locke pulled down 9 rebounds, and scored a team-high 22 points.
PG DARIUS HINES | BISHOP IRETON ‘18
Darius Hines was top five in steals at camp. He understands positioning defensively, and knows when he’s in good position to gamble. Hines is a good passer. Doesn’t over dribble. Quick with the ball, and a very good shooter off the dribble and from the catch. Range has improved considerably, and he’s comfortable with the three point shot.
SG MATTHEW URBACH | W.T. WOODSON ‘18
Matt Urbach has a great motor, and displays positive body language at all times. Finished top five in offensive rebounding. Sets feet quickly in preparation for shot. Defensively, very alert in help situations. Good feel and vision. Solid defender on and off ball, and good athlete.
C AAPELI SYRJAMAKI | ST. MARY’S RYKEN ‘18
Aapeli Syrjamaki just came to the states from Finland, but is already acclimating to the style of play here. The 7-footer finished top three in blocked shots, rebound average, and defensive rebound average. Syrjamaki can hit the 10-15 footer facing up, but will have to get stronger and more aggressive at finishing around the rim. He’s a good defender, and is becoming smarter yet more forceful when protecting the rim.
SG CURTIS HOLLAND | SOUTHERN-AA ‘18
Curtis Holland is a stocky, well-built, strong athlete. He gets up and down the floor, and can defend several different positions. Holland will need to continue to improve his consistency with his perimeter jumper, but he has a good middle game.
