Louisiana Top 28: 4A All Tournament Team
First team:
Davontavean “Tae” Martin 6’4 G 2017 Ellender (Washington St. football commit)
Tae Martin is the biggest reason that Ellender had as much success as they did this past season. The former UNO basketball commit had 30 points in the semifinal matchup against Westgate, and followed that 17 in the finale. He is a world class athlete that can get to the rim at will, and finish with the best.
Jalen Brooks 6’4 F 2018 Woodlawn-Shreve
Woodlawn has had mulitiple players step up for them all season long, and it was Jalen Brooks that stepped up in their semifinal matchup with Washington-Marion. The long forward feasted on the glass, and as a result was able to lead the team in scoring, posting 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Cody Stansberry 6’0 G 2017 Washington-Marion
Heading into the Top 28, I would have been very surprised for Stansberry to make this list, but he absolutely played his way on. He was a big reason that Washington-Marion walked away with the championship, hitting 5 threes in the state championship game and finishing with 18, as well as the game’s Most Outstanding Player award.
Marquie Mosely 6’0 G 2018 Ellender
Mosely was the second half out Ellender’s incredible backcourt. When one game, one member of your backcourt can go for 30, and in the next the other member can go for 21, like Marquie did, you know you have something special. Mosely is lightning quick, and has a very shifty game. He is going to be relied upon even more for Ellender next season, and I am looking forward to seeing what he can do.
DaVantre Vitor MVP 6’0 G 2017 Washington-Marion
Vitor has played like an animal all season long, and it is only deserving that it results in a state title and a Top 28 4A MVP selection. Vitor is capable of scoring in bunches, and had 24 points on only 14 shots in the semifinals. In the final game, he showed he was capable of being more of a facilitator, and it resulted in Washington-Marion’s first title in 30 years.
Second Team:
Anachak Phomthirath 5’8 G 2017 Westgate
Phomthirath was Westgate’s leading scorer, and was the main oporator of their offense this season. He showed poise under pressure as he knocked down clutch free throws down the stretch for Westgate, but by the end, foul trouble and injuries had too much of an impact on them.
Christian Edwards 6’4 F 2017 Washington-Marion (Alabama track commit)
Edwards was one of the biggest threats for Washington-Marion all season long, and he showed why in the Top 28. The world class high-jumper was able to affect lots of shots around the rim in both games, as well as rebounded at a high level. On the offensive end, Washington Marion revolved a lot of their sets around him at the high post, relying on his decision making to find cutters.
Eron Phillips 5’10 G 2017 Westgate
If you look at Phillips’ stat line, you might be questioning why he is on this list, but he has as much to do with the result of Westgate’s game as any. He turned his ankle when Westgate was up 9 points, and after that they had to turn to some less experienced players, and even when he was in the game, he clearly wasn’t at 100%. He only finished with 12 points, but he had a huge impact on the result of the game.
Davante Brooks 6’5 F 2017 Woodlawn-Shreve
Brooks is another long, athletic frontcourt member for Woodlawn Shreve, and he was able to affect shots at the rim as well as finish shots on the otherside, leading to him finishing with 14 for Woodlawn.
