Lake Central Takes Down Lowell
In one of the bigger upsets on the tournament to this point, Lowell was downed on Wednesday night as Lake Central won, 43-39. Lake Central lost to them early in the season by just five points so it isn’t a big surprise they beat them, just, you thought Lowell had a chance to possibly make some noise in the Sectional is they got past this first game. The ironic thing now is that Lake Central is the only team in this Sectional to beat the favorite, East Chicago Central, during the regular season. They beat them 66-60. It isn’t to say they can do it or even make it to the Championship game but they have already beaten them and that should give them confidence.
South Bend Adams Upsets South Bend Riley
Well, it looks like South Bend Adams just has Riley’s number. That is twice in the last few weeks they have taken down Riley. Riley was a good bet to make it a long way in the tournament. Now, Adams looks like a team that could do some damage. They stand at 19-4 this season and they haven’t had a bad loss since early December. They have a much easier road to next weekend after getting past Riley and clearly, they can beat good teams. Their next big test could come against either Crown Point or Michigan City in the Regional Semifinals. Michigan City was the last team to beat Adams.
Carmel Survives Westfield
For Carmel, they have a tough road ahead of them. They will be without their starting point guard in Sterling Brown until next Saturday night but on Wednesday, they got through Step 1. They beat Westfield. Westfield played them tough early but just didn’t have the scoring depth to stay with Carmel. Next up is Noblesville who will be in about the same boat. Carmel should be okay through that. Their biggest challenge will be Hamilton Southeastern if they meet in the Sectional Championship. If that happens, HSE just blew the doors off them a few weeks back and that should be the expected outcome. However, it is tough to bet against Scott Heady in March and Carmel, even without Brown, still has quite a bit of talent.
Rushville Surprises Batesville
In the biggest upset of the night, down goes Batesville. Rushville had only had two wins on the season heading into this game and had really struggled. But, playing opponents you know can give you a little boost and now Rushville was able to extend their season another couple days. The biggest storyline out of all of this is that maybe the second best team in the Sectional is gone and now Greensburg will have an easier path.
