Iowa All-Sophomore Team
First Team
Sophomore of the Year: Tyreke Locure, 5’10 PG (Des Moines North)
25.6 PPG, 7.3 APG, 3.0 SPG, 5.2 RPG
The accolades keep rolling in for this preternatural 5-foot-10 point guard. He was named our Freshman of the Year last season, and then was voted Iowa’s Player of the Year just last week. He’ll spend his spring and summer playing with MOKAN Elite, and could see some Division I offers start rolling in.
Owen Coburn, 6’10 C (Spirit Lake) — 18.2 PPG (70 FG%), 1.4 BPG, 9.5 RPG
Averaging north of 18 points per game is great in and of itself, but to so while shooting at a blistering 70 percent clip is pretty remarkable. At 6’10 and with long arms, it’s no wonder the future Division I post is able to dominate in Iowa’s 3A class. Drake and North Dakota have offered this Martin Brothers product.
Noah Carter, 6’4 F (Dubuque, Senior) — 18.5 PPG, (63 FG%, 49 3FG%), 7.0 RPG
After a very decent freshman season, Carter blew up this season. His field goal percentages are as efficient as you’ll see out of anyone in the state, and he was the leading scorer and rebounder on one of 4A’s best teams. One of three Iowa Barnstormers on this first team, it’s no wonder the 15U ‘Stormers squad finished last summer ranked nationally.
Patrick McCaffery, 6’8 SF (Iowa City West) — 13.8 PPG (61 FG%), 1.8 BPG, 4.3 RPG
Though his numbers are a bit more pedestrian compared to others on this list, the fact that he even posted those is impressive considering he was playing with the most talented team in the state. The younger McCaffery was efficient and smart, shooting at a high clip, and proved himself to be a rim-protector this season too. He’ll lead the Barnstormers’ 16U squad this spring.
Jake Hilmer, 5’10 PG (North Linn) — 21.8 PPG (56 FG%), 9.8 APG, 4.5 SPG, 4.6 RPG
This kid flat-out dominates 1A competition in Iowa, and the 4.5 steals per game is an excellent illustration of that. He was the leader of a 1A state qualifier, and will almost certainly put up even more ridiculous numbers the next two seasons. There could be some assists and steals records in jeopardy before too long.
Second Team
Tyrese Nickelson (Waterloo East) — 24.8 PPG, 42 3FG%, 4.4 RPG
Trey Hutcheson (Linn-Mar) — 15.8 PPG, 44 3FG%, 7.2 RPG

Jackson Molstead (Charles City) — 19.4 PPG, 40 3FG%, 6.0 APG, 1.9 SPG
Derek Krogmann (West Delaware) — 15.8 PPG (58 FG%), 11.4 RPG
Third Team
Mason Porter (New London) — 19.4 PPG (55 FG%, 43 3FG%), 2.7 SPG, 8.4 RPG

Kylan Smallwood (Creston) — 18.4 PPG (51 FG%), 2.3 SPG, 6.5 RPG

Beau Cornwell (West Branch) — 19.2 PPG, 4.0 APG, 3.3 SPG, 5.2 RPG
