Getting to know 2018 F Andreas Czechowicz
When you have size and strength like 2018 forward Andreas Czechowicz, you stand out.
For Downey Christian (20-12), the 6’7″, 208-pounder forward averaged 15.1 points, 13.0 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game this past season while reaching double digits in all but five games. His 30-point performance in a win over City of Life Christian marked his career high. Czechowicz averaged 14.9 points per game as a sophomore.
“It was an exciting season this year,” he told Prep Hoops Florida. “We played a lot of good teams like Oldsmar Christian, West Oaks and IMG. I felt like that made me a better player because I was playing against players that were top in the country and I felt like I had something to prove every time I step on the court against those players.”
Czechowicz says his ability to shoot the ball in or out of the perimeter and his ball handling improved this past season.
He joined Team M.O.A.M. on the AAU circuit will be focusing his craft this summer.
“I want to win games on the circuit, get offers, get my name out there and show everybody who Andreas is and what he’s about,” he said.
Starting his basketball at the age of 8, Czechowicz grew up in a basketball family. His dad played college ball at Army and then overseas while his mother was a high school player at North Hardin in Kentucky.
“I was blessed with the gift to be able to play the game of basketball,” he said. “I will never forget the first time I went to go play basketball at a local park and as I was playing I was enjoying myself and I was loving it. Then from that day on as I got older I started taking basketball more serious And knew that this was something I could be good at.”
Growing up Czechowicz’s mother raised him all on her own and he pointed to her as the main person who taught him the game of basketball.
As for his biggest strengths, he says that is attacking the basket, blocking shots and rebounding. He’s aiming to improve his handles and his shot overall.
Several schools have looked his way and after his performance at The Top Rank Showcase in Orlando on Saturday, I’m sure more will know who he is. He won the dunk contest with a trio of dunks that would wow any crowd (video of the winning dunk).
Expect Czechowicz to take a huge step forward playing for Team M.O.A.M this summer. He has the tools and as long he continues to improve, he’ll land somewhere at the next level whether that is low Division-I or a solid Division-II school.
