Gatorade Player of the Year: Jaxon Brenchley
Utah is know for it’s players that can shoot. Every season some of the best shooters in the country hail from the Beehive State. Jaxon Brenchley at 6’5 can shoot but he also does all of the other things and that’s what has set him apart from other players in the state.
One of the highest awards that a player can win in the state is The Gatorade Player of the Year. The competition was fierce this year with multiple players in the state having breakout seasons such as Stockton Shorts and Trevin Knell. Brenchley averaged 19.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 5.8 assists per game. He scored a combined 1,582 career points between Mountain Crest and Ridgeline High School and has signed to play for the University of Utah.
As a spectator you can’t help but notice a player that is special. Jaxon is truly a five tool player. In a system where he could have taken over any game he simply decided to do whatever it took to help his team win. In the state final against Juan Diego he was one assist away from a triple double. Jaxon is able to use his IQ and crafty style of play to get to the basket with ease. Jaxon will not only add to his accolades as an individual with this prestigious award, but he will leave a legacy at his school that will be remembered forever as he helped his team capture a State Championship at a 1st year school. Jaxon will take a two year break from basketball as he will go on his LDS Mission for two years in Taichung Taiwan. When he returns he will suit up for the Utes.
Jaxon also played under Exum Elite which is the top AAU program in the state and was coached by Kendall Youngblood.
