Gatorade Player of the Year: Coby White
North Carolina is know as the “Hoop State“. Every season some of the best players in the country make a name for themselves playing basketball in North Carolina.
One of the highest awards that a player can win in the state is The Gatorade Player of the Year. No player had the year that Coby White of Greenfield School had in his junior campaign. White averaged 31.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game. He scored a school record for a season 1,067 points and has verbally committed to North Carolina.
Coby WhiteRob Salter, Coby’s head coach at Greenfield School had this to say about his talented junior, “Coby had a special season. Coby is one of the best players in the country and he showed it this year. I was very excited that he won he NC Gatorade Player of the Year because he put in the work. He is such a focused young man and his hard work payed off. Coby, is not only a special player but he is a special person. He is a perfect example of a student athlete. I am very proud of him and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Coby White.”
Attacking down hill, getting out and running in the open floor, finishing end-to-end and a soft touch around the rim has propelled him from being a talk in North Carolina as a player to see, to now a player nationally to see. A taller point guard at 6’4″ he can see over other guards which allows him to make easier passes. White has the ability to knock down mid-range jump shots all the way to the three-point line. White also possesses a high basketball IQ that other players his age do not have.
Whire will play this aau season for Team CP3 coached by Andy Poplin on the Nike EYBL circuit.
