Final Four Preview: Under the Radar Prospects
This weekend, some of the biggest name prospects in Ohio will participate in the Final Four. Surely, Division I programs will be there to scout some highly-touted recruits. But there will also be Division II, Division III, and NAIA programs in attendance. Here’s some guys they should be watching — some guys who are flying below the radar, and may actually land on those Division I radars eventually.
Juan Elmore (2018), 6’5” F/W, Pickerington Central
Elmore’s role may remind you of Draymond Green. Elmore is in the starting five alongside three Division I prospects, but he’s trusted with the ball as much as anyone. Elmore hangs out around the wing and makes nice entry passes. However, he can also score inside himself with some crafty moves.
Montorie Foster (2020), 6’ G, Lakewood St. Edward
Everyone knows about his fellow freshman teammates, Grant Huffman and Devontae Blanton. But, Foster is blue-collar player who is not going to shy away from the bright lights. He may not log a ton of playing time, but you can expect Foster to play with supreme effort and fight. Skilled guard whose role will expand heavily over the next few years.
Ethan Stanislawki (2018), 6’2” PG, Massillon Jackson
Stanislawski has burst onto the scene over the past 12 months or so. He has the trust of his teammates as the point guard. His height allows him to see over other point guards, where he can dump it off to more scoring-minded players. Although Massillon Jackson is headlined by Kyle Young and Logan Hill, Stanislawski plays a crucial role.
Myles Belyeu (2018), 6’3” G, Trotwood Madison
Belyeu sort of looks like a Division I middle-linebacker on the court. He’s physically gifted and uses those skills when attacking the rim. But that’s not to say he’s unskilled or even raw. Belyeu scores mostly on drives, but he has some finesse moves also. Strong defender who communicates well on that end.
Kollin Van Horn (2018), 6’7” F, Proctorville Fairland
Not sure Van Horn is truly under the radar, but he only mentioned Marshall University when we spoke to him recently. He’s disruptive defensively, using his length to affect lay-ups. He’s a smart rim-defender with the athleticism to switch on pick-and-rolls. His offensive game is 15-feet and in.
Jared Wurst (2019), 6’4” G, Delphos St. John’s
The team revolves around 6’8” center, Timothy Kreeger. For Wurst, that means open looks from deep. He’s the only guy who consistently shot with confidence from deep in their Regional Final. If Wurst can knock down those triples in Columbus, he could get them over the hump and they could take it all.
Jordan Burge (2018), 6’3” G, Lutheran East
In October, Burge told Prep Hoops that, “I honestly feel like we should win States this year.” They’re pretty darn close now. Burge has had to adjust to playing with other talented guards, Maurico Tate and Keandre Graves. But, he’s carried them at times with his ability to score inside. Burge is a physical guard.
