Sandburg hosted Lemont in a class 4A regional semi-final. Both teams started sluggish in this 8/9 seed matchup. Lemont would take the lead into half 21-14. In the second half Lemont’s senior guard Pj Pipes would get going on the offensive end scoring 11 points to spark a run for Lemont. Lemont’s sound defense kept Sandburg in check most of the game making it tough to get any rhythm going. Lemont now moves on to face #1 seed Bolingbrook Friday at Sandburg HS at 7:00 PM. Here are the Fab Five: performances from the game.
MVP:
PG PJ Pipes – Lemont (2017) UW-Green Bay commit
The Senior UW-Green Bay commit started out slow as Sandburg did a good job of keeping him from his bread and butter which is creating off the dribble and attacking the lane. Limited in the first half Lemont was still able go into the half with a 7-point lead. In the second half Pipes started to really attack on offensive. He had several nice drives to the lane and hit some jumpers as well. Pipes showed leadership to overcome a rough 1st half to have a nice 4th quarter to seal the victory for Lemont. Pipes led Lemont with 15 points in the game.
Top Rebounder:
C- Paul O’Leary -Lemont (2018)
The 6’8 Center was force on the defensive glass for Lemont. O’Leary has good fundamentals securing rebounds and goes up strong to grab the rebound. O’Leary moves well for a Center but will need to work on his post moves and working the mid-post area. Had some nice put backs on offensive. D2/small college prospect right now.
Top Shooter:
WF-Barlow Alleruzzo- Sandburg (2017)
Alleruzzo is a long wing forward who can stretch the floor with his shooting ability. He knocked down three 3-pointers in the game to help Sandburg try to stay within reach of Lemont. He is best when he can spot up and can catch and shoot. Will be a prospect to track this summer on the grassroots circuit.
Top Under-the-radar performance
F-Jerry Radomiski-Lemont (2017)
When both teams struggled early on Jerry Radomiski got it going knocking down a pair of threes’ in the first half. Radomiski was very active on defense, moved the ball well on offense, and got some key rebounds down the stretch.
Top Passer:
Pj Pipes- Lemont (2017)
Pipes was good setting up teammates and running the show even when the shots were not falling early for him in the game.
