Dynamic Duos
Here is a list of some of the top dynamic duos in the Show-Me State:
Courtney Ramey and Carte’are Gordon (Webster Groves): The two 2018 five-star prospects powered the Statesmen to the Class 5 state championship. The 6’4″ Ramey averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists a game while the 6’8″ Gordon averaged 18 points and eight rebounds while shooting 68 percent from the field. In the state championship game victory over Lee’s Summit West, Ramey had 25 points, 11 rebounds and four assists while Gordon had 21 points and seven rebounds.
Jared Ridder and Cameron Davis (Kickapoo): These two standouts were teammates on two Final Four teams as well as a Nike EYBL Peach Jam championship team during the grassroots season. Both can really fill it up. A Xavier signee, the 6’8″ Ridder averaged 24 points a game and shot 40 percent from the field. The 6’1″ Davis averaged 20 points while shooting 47 percent from 3-point range. He is headed to the Naval Academy.
Brandon Emmert and Conley Garrison (Bolivar): This inside-outside combination led the Liberators to two Class 4 Final Four berths, including a second-place finish this season. The 6’6″ Emmert averaged 20 points and eight rebounds while shooting 63 percent from the field. He is headed to Central Missouri. The 6’1″ Garrison averaged 18 points, 5.7 rebounds, five assists and made 39 percent of his 3-pointers.
Elijah Childs and Christian Bishop (Lee’s Summit West): One of the best frontcourt combos in the state, this duo led the Titans to a runner-up finish in the Class 5 state tournament. The 6’8″ Childs handled much of the work in the paint, averaging 14 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 57 percent from the field. He’s headed to Bradley. The 6’7″ Bishop is a versatile performer who played any position on the floor and did it well. Bishop averaged 11 points and seven rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the field.
Jericole Hellems and Karrington Davis (Chaminade): This excellent duo of 2018 forwards led the Red Devils back to the Final Four after winning a state championship last year with its great 2016 class. The 6’7″ Hellems averaged 21 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the field and 45 percent from 3-point range. The 6’6″ Davis averaged 18.7 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range.
Jaiden Bristol and Matt Austin (St. Joe Central): This duo formed one of the top starting backcourts in the state over the past couple of years. The versatile 6’0″ Bristol averaged 16 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals while shooting 52 percent from the field. The 6’1″ Austin averaged 18 points, three rebounds, three assists and two assists a game. They led Central to a 21-7 record.
Monty Johal and Jordan Walton (Glendale): One of the most potent offensive duos in the state, the 6’4″ Johal and 6’0″ Walton have been starting together at Glendale since they were freshmen. The 6’4″ Johal is closing in on 2,000 career points with one full season left to play. Walton has also surpassed the 1,000-point mark in his career. As sophomores, they led Glendale to the Class 4 state quarterfinals in 2016. They will make Glendale one of the top teams to watch next year in 2018.
Kaleb Overall and Jaylen Sims (Wentzville Liberty): This duo of 2018 guards led Wentzville Liberty to an historic season, which included the school’s first conference championship and district championship. The 6’4″ Overall averaged 17 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals a game. The 6’1″ Sims averaged 13 points and 5.7 rebounds a game while shooting 50 percent from the field.
Ryan Warren and Jamarr Williams (Northwest Academy): The 5’7″ Warren and 6’6″ Williams were dynamic performers at their positions for the Class state champions. Warren was an electric point guard who could go off on a high scoring riff and any time while Williams was a double-double machine who is arguably the best offensive rebounder in the state.
Alec Spence and Matt Roper (MICDS): A big pair of 2017 wings, they led the Rams to a 19-9 record and the championship of the Metro League. The 6’5″ Spence averaged 19.2 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists while earning Metro League Player of the Year honors. The 6’4″ Roper averaged 18.1 points and made 40 percent from 3-point range, which included 66 from long distance.
Steve Webb and Cliff DeGroot (Westminster): This Metro League 2017 duo enjoyed an excellent three-year run together, which included a conference title and a berth in the Class 4 state quarterfinals in 2015. The 6’2″ Webb averaged 19.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, four assists and three steals a game. The 6’3″ DeGroot averaged 16.4 points while making an impressive 108 3-pointers and shooting 46 percent from long distance.
Alex Movila and Gus Kleekamp (Borgia): An impressive inside-outside duo of 2017s that led the Knights to a district championship. The 6’8″ Movila averaged 20.5 points and 6.1 rebounds a game while the versatile 6’3″ Kleekamp averaged 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 8.4 assists a game, which included a number of triple-doubles.
Chase Parrish and Aubrey Nelson (Montgomery County): These two young men were big bucket getters for a team that averaged 80 points and game and advanced to the Class 3 state quarterfinals. The 6’4″ Parrish averaged more than 20 points a game in his senior year while the 5’10” Nelson averaged 18 points a game as a junior. He was very good a creating a shot off the dribble.
William Rogers and Corie Williams (Saxony Lutheran): An excellent pair of big guards who led the Crusaders to their best season in school history. Both are about 6’3″ with the ability to get buckets, rebounds and drop dimes. Together, they led Saxony Lutheran to 24 victories, a district championship and a berth in the Class 3 state quarterfinals.
