It’s that time of the year when athletic director’s start getting pressure from alumni and boards on which way their program is heading and have to make the decision to keep a coach that more times than not has become also a close friend and gave their all to see the program succeed. It’s also that time of the year when transfers also are abundant at the college level. Some 700 players transferred from one college to another last season.
North Carolina’s top basketball recruit, Lavar Batts Jr from JM Robinson High School signed a national letter-of-intent to VCU and Head Coach Will Wade. This past weekend Will Wade excepted the position to come to become the head coach at Louisiana State University.
Now, according to multiple sources Batts has asked for his release from his national letter of intent. Before choosing VCU, Batts had a final two of Clemson and VCU. Another aspect to follow in this recruiting news will be the NC State hiring of former UNC-Wilmington Head Coach Kevin Keatts.
University of Washington commitment Blake Harris from Word of God Christian Academy In Raleigh was also a granted a release from his national letter of intent after Head Coach Lorenzo Romar was let go earlier this week. Harris is ranked as the second best prospect in the Prep Hoops North Carolina class of 2017. On a national level Harris and Batts are two of the top rated point guards who have been granted releases from their prospective schools.

2016 Gatorade Player of the Year Joseph Battle of Abbeville High School (SC) has been granted his release after spending one season at Tulsa University.
Former Gray’s Collegiate Academy guard Ed Stephens has been granted his release from SC State University.
Former Davidson Day guard Myles McGregor has been granted his release from Presbyterian.
