MVP: Caleb Nero 2017 Tulsa Memorial Combo Guard
Caleb Nero dominated the weekend leading his team in each game in scoring. He averaged 26.7 points per game for the weekend. Nero was fantastic at getting to the basket with his change of pace. The jump shot of Nero was displayed fully from mid-range and beyond the arc. Nero showed this weekend he is a Division I caliber of player at the Point Guard spot. The offensive game of Nero in some ways reflects Jamal Crawford with how he gets his jump shot off. Nero will be a steal for a Division I program late.
Kobe Rose 2017 Tulsa Memorial Wing (Signed Connors State)
Kobe Rose was the backbone of Tulsa Memorial at State as he has been for his senior year. The combination of Nero and Rose was too difficult for teams to stop. Rose was the best two way player in the Class 5A state tournament. The scoring ability of Rose in clutch moments was incredible. Rose went on a 10-0 run for Tulsa Memorial in the second half of their game with El Reno to give the Chargers the lead. Rose has already signed to Connors State, keep an eye on him over the next two years he has the potential to develop into a Division I prospect.
Jeffery Oxford 2017 Claremore Wing
Jeffery Oxford had the greatest moment maybe in the entire tournament with a game winning shot against Carl Albert. Although, Oxford and Claremore did not win the tournament they certainly made quite the run. Oxford was the lead player for Claremore throughout the weekend. He is not super athletic, but finds ways to get the job done. Oxford really improved his jump shot over the past year, which proved to be very effective at state. Oxford projects to the Division II level.
Mason Harrell 2018 Carl Albert Point Guard
Mason Harrell was in command from the opening tip of the Class 5A State Tournament. He did such a great job running the offense for Carl Albert. This weekend Harrell showed the state his scoring talents. Harrell’s junior season featured his enhanced jumper, which made the 5’9 quick guard even tougher to guard. At the Class 5A State Tournament Harrell averaged an outstanding 31 points per game.
Callen Haydon 2017 El Reno Point Guard
Callen Haydon is the definition of a gamer at the Point Guard spot. He scored the most points in a single game of any player in the Class 5A State Tournament with 48 on opening night. The toughness and heart of Haydon make him so tough to play against. Haydon will make the college that lands his talents extremely happy. It will be interesting to see where he decides to go many have him as high Division II talent, but if he chose the JUCO route Haydon may have a chance at a low major Division I program after two years.
