Class 5 Final Four All-Tournament Team
There was a lot of prime-time talent on display at last weekend’s Class 5 state Final Four. Webster Groves emerged from the pack with the state title after a dominating 70-35 victory over a good Lee’s Summit West team in the championship game. Kickapoo defeated Chaminade 88-79 in the third place game, which happened to be a rematch of the two teams that played for the state title last year.
Here is a look at the Class 5 Final Four All-Tournament Team
Most Outstanding Player: Courtney Ramey (Webster Groves): The 6’4″ 2018 Louisville commit put on a pair of big-time performances in leading the Statesmen to their third state title. In the semifinals, Ramey had 25 points, including the dramatic three-point play in the closing seconds for the 58-57 victory over Kickapoo. The following night, Ramey dominated from start to finish as he had 25 points, 11 rebounds and four assists in the victory over Lee’s Summit West.
The Next Five
Carte’are Gordon (Webster Groves): The 6’8″ 250-pound Saint Louis U. commit was a pillar of strength in the paint for the Statesmen. Gordon had 21 points, seven rebounds and made all eight of his field goal attempts in the championship game against Lee’s Summit West. In the semifinals, Gordon had 18 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, including the game saving swat at the end of the game.
Elijah Childs (Lee’s Summit West): The 6’8″ Bradley signee had a productive weekend in leading the Titans to the state runner-up finish. Childs had 24 points, 11 rebounds and several dunks in the 74-68 victory over Chaminade in the semifinals. He followed up 13 points and four rebounds in the championship game against Webster Groves. Childs was tough around that basket with the ability to knock down a high-post jumper.
Jared Ridder (Kickapoo): The 6’7″ Xavier signee finished his career by leading the Chiefs to a third-place finish. He had 24 points and eight rebounds in the semifinals against Webster Groves, including a breathtaking 10-point sequence in the third quarter when he knocked down three consecutive 3-pointers and got fouled on the last one for a four-point play. He also had 19 points and six rebounds in the victory over Chaminade for third place.
Cameron Davis (Kickapoo): The 6’1″ Navy commit closed out his career by leading the Chiefs to a third place finish with a sensational Final Four. He scored 21 points in the semifinals against Webster Groves, including a pair of 3-pointers that nearly won the game. In the third-place game, Davis scored 29 points on nine of 12 shooting from the field, and grabbed seven rebounds in the victory over Chaminade.
Christian Bishop (Lee’s Summit West): The 6’7″ 2018 wing had a nice coming out party on the big stage as he had 17 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, three steals and four blocks in the victory over Chaminade. He added another 10 points and three rebounds in the loss to Webster Groves in the championship game. Bishop was a 6’1″ junior varsity player last year who has grown in stature and in game to become one of the top prospects in the state. He is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential.
