16th Region POY and Other Top Region Performers
The Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches (KABC) released their list of each region player of the year at the end of February. The list covers all 16 regions of the state and PHKY has your recap of each one, as well as other top performers who stood out during the 2016-2017 Kentucky high school basketball season.
16th Region Players of the Year :
Hayden Roe, West Carter (2017)
Hayden Roe led West Carter to it’s best season in five years, winning 26 games with only 7 loses. Roe averaged 22.7 points per game and 11.1 rebounds. West Carter advanced to both their district and region championships, losing each time in close games to Elliot County.
OTHER TOP REGION PERFORMERS:
Korbin Spencer, Elliott County (2019)
Another top prospect in Kentucky’s 2019 class, Spencer helped lead Elliott County back to the Kentucky state tournament again this year. With interest from top programs like Wisconsin, Creighton, Davidson, and Georgia Tech – Korbin Spencer is looking to seperate himself as a top point guard in the class. This season Spencer averaged 22.3 points per game, shooting 52% from the field.
Chase Porter, Elliott County (2017)
The senior leader on Elliott County’s team, Porter averaged 15.5 points and and 8 rebounds per game for the Lions this season.
Michael Antrobus, Rowan County (2017)
Had Antrobus stayed at Pendelton County, he would have came close to breaking the school 3-point shooting record. As a senior at Rowan County this year, Antrobus made 106 3’s, shooting 38% from beyond the arc. He averaged 18.1 points per game this season.
Hunter Kenser, Boyd County (2017)
The senior guard guided Boyd County to a 26-7 overall record, averaging 23.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Boyd County defeated Ashland Blazer for the 64th District championship.
