15th Region POY and Other Top Region Performers
The Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches (KABC) released their list of each region player of the year at the end of February. The list covers all 16 regions of the state and PHKY has your recap of each one, as well as other top performers who stood out during the 2016-2017 Kentucky high school basketball season.
15th Region Players of the Year :
Timmy Dalton, Lawrence County (2017)
Dalton led the entire county in points per game, averaging 37.4. Originally committed to Salem International (NCAA D-II), Dalton will attend prep school after graduation. He led his team to an overall record of 22-12.
Trenton Russell, Magoffin County (2017)
The 6’3 shooting guard from Magoffin County averaged 23.8 points and 7.2 rebounds for the Hornets this season, leading them to a 18-12 overall record. He’s getting looks from a number of NAIA and D3 programs.
OTHER TOP REGION PERFORMERS:
Mason Blair, Johnson Central (2017)
Blair joins another Eastern Kentucky sharpshooter (Austin Combs) as a University of Pikeville commit. Blair averaged 31.5 points per game this season while leading the Golden Eagles to a 27-7 record.
Wyatt Battaile, Pikeville (2018)
A rising junior, Battaile guided Pikeville to the first round of the Kentucky state tournament this season, averaging 20.6 points per game and 7.4 rebounds. He currently holds an offer from Mercer University.
Cole Crace, Johnson Central (2017)
Johnson Central’s floor general this year, Crace averaged 21.1 points per game and 7.4 rebounds.
