14th Region POY and Other Top Region Performers
The Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches (KABC) released their list of each region player of the year at the end of February. The list covers all 16 regions of the state and PHKY has your recap of each one, as well as other top performers who stood out during the 2016-2017 Kentucky high school basketball season.
14th Region Player of the Year :
Torell Carter, Letcher Co. Central (2017)
Averaging 26.4 points and 6.4 rebounds for Letcher County Central this season, Carter guided the Cougars to a 24-9 overall record. He’s got great size at 6’3”, and good athleticism.
OTHER TOP REGION PERFORMERS:
Damon Tobler, Perry County Central (2017)
Tobler is arguably the most talented and most athletic player in the 14th Region. This season he averaged 16 points and 8.5 rebounds, leading Perry County Central to the Kentucky state tournament. He holds offers from Samford, Winthrop, Nicholls State, and Tennessee Tech.
Caleb Bonny, Estill County (2018)
The junior guard can absolutely fill it up from every spot on the floor. He can shoot the 3, hit open jumpers, and beat you off the dribble and finish at the rim. This season Bonny averaged 22.9 points and 4 rebounds, leading the Engineers to a 25-8 record.
Austin Combs, Knott County Central (2017)
Combs has committed to the University of Pikeville (NAIA). He helped lead Knott County Central to an overall record of 22-10, averaging 19.6 points per game. He also earned a 2nd team all-state selection.
