On Thursday night Village and St. David’s met up to do battle in the first round of the NCISAA 2A tournament, both of these teams have multiple players that will play on the college level so we knew this would be a good game. The contest remained close through the first half with Village taking a 39-31 lead into the half, the second half would remain close for a while but Village would go on a bigtime run with St. David’s never fully recovering and Village moving on to the 2nd round.
Village Christian Guard Senior Jordan Ratliffe: Jordan started the game absolutely on fire, he scored the first 11 Points for Village and would finish with 23 Points in the first half. He showed his very smooth shooting stroke as well as his ability to get to the basket at will, and put the exclamation point on the end of the half with a big time block as time expired. Although he would cool off in the 2nd half and finish with 31 Points his senior leadership would come up big for the squad as helped them to keep their poise and energy throughout the end of the game.
St. David’s Junior Wing Kris Monroe: It’s been a while since we were introduced to Kris by the guy over at The Hoopcolumn, since then his game has matured and he has grown into his 6’7 frame. During the first half he was pretty quiet, picking his spots and mostly facilitating to teammates but once the 2nd half began we saw a different Kris. He was very aggressive to get to the basket and was very active on the glass, scoring quite a few put back layups. Kris would go on to finish with 28 Points and double digit rebounds easily, Providence was in to watch him play.
Village Christian Guard Junior Dakari Johnson: Dakari was a huge factor in breaking the press of St. David’s throughout the 2nd half, he’s a crafty ball handler with a strong frame that doesn’t back down from any challenge. He can knock down shots from mid and deep but continues to get better each time I see him as a passer. Dakari finished with 16 Points on the night and had a good amount of steals and deflections, Longwood University has offered and the list will continue to grow.
Village Christian Senior Forward Omari Wilson: Had one of his best games of the season with Village big man Nassyr Daniels going down with an injury. Omari shot the ball very well from deep but didn’t just settle for the perimeter shot, he rebounded at a high rate and was outstanding on the defensive end as well. Finished with 16 Points on the night, is a player that schools should be on without a doubt, holds offers from Catawba and Newberry.
St. David’s Junior Darion Green: Darion had a solid day, he scored the ball at a solid rate and brought maximum effort on the defensive end. Also has a solid frame that helps him to not be thrown off balance when he’s attacking the basket, finished with 13 Points.
