We’re talking about the floor general, the leader, the coach on the floor who doesn’t care about being the superstar as much as he cares about winning games and championships. Here’s six of the most overlooked floor generals in the DC Metropolitan Area.
ELYJAH CAMP | POTOMAC (VA)
Elyjah Camp does nothing but win, and come up clutch when his team needs him most. The lefty is downhill-type guard who looks for his teammates first, but isn’t afraid to take over when the occasion calls for it. Camp is without question among the toughest, and most competitive players we’ve seen; regardless of position.
DONALD CAREY | FREDERICK DOUGLASS (MD)
At 6-foot-5, and owning a high basketball IQ, there isn’t much to dislike about what Donald Carey brings to the table. The long & lanky guard displays commendable fundamentals, and rebounds exceptionally well for his position. Carey has led Douglass to a 19-2 record, and is coming off a recent triple-double.
DOMINIK FRAGALA | JOHN CHAMPE (VA)
This has been a record-breaking season for Dominik Fragala. The new VHSL’s single-season made free throws leader is averaging a ridiculous 37 points per game, but has also helped his team qualify for regionals. His gaudy scoring numbers can be a distraction, but Fragala is a complete, unselfish player who defends and competes at a high level.
BRENT PEGRAM | WISE (MD)
Brent Pegram has helped lead his team to a 16-0 record, the number 1 ranking in the Washington Post, and a top-25 national ranking by MaxPreps. The reliable playmaker is a lockdown defender, but can produce offensively as well. Pegram’s lowest single game assist total of the season was 4.
ALAN TREAKLE | WAKEFIELD (VA)
Alan Treakle has on varsity at Wakefield since his freshman year, and has certainly proven himself among top-tier competition. The Warriors will play for another district championship tonight, and once again have a chance to make serious noise in 5A this year.
KHALIL WILLIAMS-DIGGINS | WEST POTOMAC (VA)
Many had West Potomac among their 6A favorites prior to the season, and Khalil Williams-Diggins has been a huge reason why the Wolverines are living up to the hype. KWD loves setting up his teammates, and is very good at using his pace to keep defenders off balance.
