Just moments after he missed what would have been a go-ahead 3, 2019 wing Joe Rost knocked down a 23-foot 3-pointer from the wing giving the Saints a two-point lead. Meige had the ball and a chance to tie the game. With seven seconds remaining Miege called time out to set up the final play, but left a shot under the goal short and Aquinas pulled out a 47-45 win.
MVP: Joe Rost (Saint Thomas Aquinas). Yes, he only scored five total points, but Rost made the biggest shot in the game as he nailed a long 3 to give the Saints a two-point lead late in the contest. Rost is a 6’4 2019 wing player that came off the bench but was on the floor late in the game.
Offensive Player of the Game: Angelo Allegri (Saint Thomas Aquinas). He has been a big performer in every game we have seen him play this season and Saturday was no different. He had seven points at the half, and went for 11 in the second half and finished with 18 and six rebounds. He is a long, athletic 6’7 2017 wing player that is good off the bounce and is always in attack mode.
Defensive Player of the Game: Semaj Ray (Bishop Miege). A 6’2 2017 guard, Ray is strong, athletic and is a tenacious defender. He locked up Saint Thomas Aquinas’ Leiland Lewis, one of the top point guards in the Kansas City area.
Best rebounder: Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (Bishop Miege). One of the nation’s premier 2019 prospects, Robinson-Earl is terrific rebounder at both ends of the floor. He finished with a game-hgih 10 rebounds.
Best shooter: Ben Hagenkord (Saint Thomas Aquinas). Kid can flat shoot it. Has a quick release and takes and makes big shots. He went for 13 points in this one, including three 3-pointers.
Best passer: Landry Weber (Bishop Miege). Wasn’t flashy, but just knows how to run a team and gets the job done. He’s a tough, hard-nosed competitor and went two-to-toe with Hagenkord throughout much of the game.
Best Player off the Bench: Francesco Badocchi (Bishop Miege). He finished with six points and one rebound but he’s an athletic wing that can impact a game at both ends of the court. Had some good moments defensively making life difficult at times for several Aquinas players.
Name to remember: Ezekiel Lopes (Bishop Miege). He’s one of the more athletic guards you’ll see in the 2018 class. A versatile 6’1 guard, Lopes scored seven points and hauled in four rebounds.
