Game 1
Wekiva vs. South Miami (4 p.m.)
How they got here: Wekiva beat Oviedo 78-63; South Miami beat North Miami 59-55
Wekiva (25-5) is headed to its first-ever state tournament after taking down Oviedo in the region final on Friday night. Senior Paul Reed put on a show with 25 points and 16 rebounds. Senior Keon Morris also pitched in with 21 points. The Mustangs will battle a well-seasoned South Miami (26-3) group. The Cobras survived in overtime against North Miami behind 22 points from senior Zack Dawson and 12 points from senior Latravian Glover. South Miami is making its fourth state appearance in five seasons.
Game 2
Osceola vs. Wellington (6 p.m.)
How they got here: Osceola beat Oak Ridge 63-60; Wellington beat Coral Springs 82-62.
For Osceola (28-2), the Kowboys are back in the state tournament for the second time in three years. Seniors Brady Fernandes and Tevin Florent led the way for Osceola with 16 and 10 points respectively. The task won’t be easy on Friday against Wellington (27-3), a team with Illinois commit Trent Frazier playing superb basketball. The senior point guard dropped a game-high 30 points in Friday’s region final win over Coral Springs.
