Both teams battled and it was a back and forth match through the first half with Farmville leading 34-28 at halftime. In the 4th quarter is where Saint Paul’s went on a run that Farmville was unable to bounce back from, Saint Paul’s would go on to win 70-59 and advance to a matchup with Greene Central in the 2nd round.
Saint Paul’s Senior Guard Cole Humphrey: Cole is one of the stronger players on this side of the state when he’s attacking the basket, he has a football type frame and gets in the paint like a running back gets through the gaps in the offensive line. Although he didn’t shoot it great from deep he knocked down shots from midrange and got his teammates involved, finishing with 20 Points during the game.
Saint Paul’s Senior Forward Isaiah Harlee: Without a doubt this young man was the most athletic player on the floor without a doubt, throwing down dunks offensively and blocking shots defensively. You have to absolutely love how much energy he brings to the floor at 6’6 for his squad, he finished with 13 Points on the night.
Farmville Central Senior Guard Tyler Maye: One of the best scorers in the state, did what he is best known for finishing the night with 34 very hard earned points. He faced all types of different defensive schemes throughout and physical play but still found ways to score the ball. Colleges have taken notice as he had Tennessee, VCU, Cincinnati, FGCU and Charlotte all in the building during this game to watch him play.
Farmville Central Freshman Guard Justin Wright: Although he didn’t have his best showing he definitely is a player that should have a close eye kept on him over the next few years. He has a smooth game, outstanding ball handling and a knack for scoring the ball, he isn’t the tallest player but plays the game with a lot of heart and confidence.
Farmville Central Junior Center Alvin Gizzard: Alvin came in and provided much needed rebounding for the squad against a much taller Saint Paul’s team. He used his height and size to come with a very high amount of rebounds and was very active on the offensive glass as well and finished with double digit rebounds.
