Hunter Tyson, a 6-foot-7 scoring wing at Piedmont High School in Monroe, North Carolina. For his career at Piedmont High School, Tyson is averaging 19.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. He has helped lead his team to the NCHSAA playoffs that start on Tuesday. Piedmont has a 15-10 overall record and will face Pisgah High School on the road on Tuesday.
Offers are in hand for Tyson from Clemson, Wake Forest, DePaul, Charlotte, Elon, Tennessee among others. He is a scorer. At 6-foot-7 he can score from the three-point line or take it in with the bigger guys. He has a text book shot with a great follow through that is high, has a good handle for his size, has a high basketball IQ, can attack the lane and finish at the rim. He has a long wing-span and can be disruptive on defense. He can get good position down low and can grab a lot of rebounds. He has good vision in the open floor.
He plays on the summer circuit with Pro Skills Basketball. He has taken visits to Charlotte and Wake Forest recently. He visited for the Wake Forest game against Duke with 2018’s Jaylen Hoard, Aaron Wiggins, John Newman, Immanuel Bates, Aaron Nesmith, and Will Dillard.
His father is 6-foot-8 and his mother is over 6-feet. I would expect Tyson to end up in the 6-foot-8 to 6-foot-9 range. He is a skilled player with a lot going for him including in the classroom. He has a 4.6 GPA and will be a player to watch over this summer and into next year for his senior season. He is a top 10 recruit in North Carolina for the 2018 class.
