The catalyst for this Owls team is senior point guard Nick Parrish. Not only does Parrish carry the scoring load at 17 points per game (including a season-high 31 points in a win over Kenwood High School), he also has the responsibilities of getting his team set up in offensive sets, creating open shots for his teammates, and ensuring that everyone in on the same page.
Parrish is the last of a dying breed of players who still thrive from the mid-range game. He shines in situations that include taking his man off the dribble to create space for a 17-foot pull-up jumper. Even more, Parrish makes it difficult on his match up when his 6’8″ center Rayonte’ Brown is setting ball-screens. It leaves his match up in a pickle of whether or not to chase him over, which Parrish will then drive to the basket, or go under in which Parrish buries a jumper.
Parrish told PrepHoops that he is currently hearing from Virginia Union University and Millersville University, but doesn’t currently have any offers yet.
At 5’9,” Parrish knows there is a lot of things to improve in his game for the next level, but creating his own shot is one of his biggest improvements this season. It’s safe to say that if he didn’t have that ability, the Owls wouldn’t be 17-5 heading into the playoffs.
Parrish told PrepHoops that he feels he can bring a substantial amount of leadership and work ethic on and off the floor to any respective college.
