Keegan is coming off a record-setting night at Lakewood Park Christian. The other night he successfully eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his high school career. Fetters is a leader in every stat for this Lakewood Park team and fills up the stat sheet every night.
Lakewood Park is currently 9-5 on the season under Coach Rod Wilmont. This is his first year at the school but has the respect and attention from all of his players.
“The season has been going great for us. We’ve already surpassed our win total from last year.” Keegan understands that this is one of the stronger teams that Lakewood Park has had in quite a few years even though some of their talent is young and inexperienced.
Lakewood Park seems to earn Top 10 votes every week for Class 1A. “Our goal as a team is to win Lakewood’s first sectional and make a run in the 1A State Tournament.”
“Some things we need to improve on are taking better care of the ball when being pressured and not making bad turnovers.” Understanding the different between a live-ball and dead-ball turnover is just a glimpse at Keegan’s basketball IQ.
If Keegan can continue to show his leadership capabilities both vocally and by his play, this team could make some noise in the postseason.
“I’ve been working on my on-ball defense the most. Coach Wilmont has been on me about that and preparing me defensively for the college level.” Keegan has great length at the guard position and he’s main focus as of late has been on his defensive footwork.
Keegan has had great coaching throughout his high school and AAU career highlighted by his coach for Total Package Elite, Chase Sanders, who is an Assistant Coach at Fort Wayne Canterbury. Now that he is playing under Coach Rod Wilmont, Keegan is getting all the instruction he needs to be ready for the next level.
“It’s been a blessing having his as a coach. He’s played at every level and it’s great to get to learn from someone who’s been where you’re trying to get.” Keegan is taking advantage of Wilmont’s basketball career by asking questions and pulling on his knowledge of what it takes to continually succeed.
Keegan has shown rapid improvement over the past few years as he continued to grow. Fetters is a good shooter from all three levels and his ball-handling ability stands out as one of his best skills.
Fetters currently holds an offer from IU-South Bend and is receiving interest from Huntington University, Northwood University, Anderson University, Spring Arbor University, and Concordia University – Ann Arbor.
This list will most likely continue to grow both in offers and interest if Keegan is able to keep playing at the high level that he is this season. He will also help himself out if he can win a Sectional Championship with a young roster and turn some heads towards Lakewood Park late this season.
Keep an eye out for Keegan as he looks to continue on the path that he’s on now and continue to make himself a better basketball player. “What motivates me is just my love for the game. I love playing basketball and having a chance to play another four years after high school really motivates me to get better.”
With his competitive drive, his advanced skill set, and his willingness to get better and be coached, Keegan will be a great fit at the next level for any program.
