“It’s been a pretty good year individually. I mean I’ve put up great numbers this year. But, as a team, we’ve struggled with some adversity. I mean, we’ve lost like six players,” Jones said.
Even while former players were disciplined for off-court issues, it’s been rather easy for Jones to keep a steady head.
“I really have a goal to play at the collegiate level. I just try to keep focused and stay on the narrow path. I know where I want to be, so that stuff doesn’t really get to me,” Jones said.
The 6’2” combo guard isn’t too far away from reaching said goal. Jones currently has three offers, coming from Lourdes, Georgian Court (NJ), Lane (TN).
“I actually took my official visit to Lane a week ago. Actually stayed for two days over night and everything … Out of those three, I’m leaning towards Lane the most,” Jones said.
Even though Lane has made an impression, there’s still opportunity for other schools to sway Jones. There will be two programs in attendance at Thurgood Marshall’s first playoff game, on February 27. Furthermore, a few others remain in contact.
“[My decision] will probably be soon after the tournament. Because I have a couple schools that are recruiting me. I’m having them come to the first playoff game,” Jones said.
The schools showing interest are St. Francis (PA), Alabama A&M, Charleston (WV), Nova Southeastern (FL), and Alderson Broaddus (WV).
As far as what Jones values in a program, he’s big on coaching and building a relationship with his fellow teammates.
As far as what Jones will bring to a program on the court, scoring. Jones puts up points from all over the court. During his senior season, without much help from his supporting cast, it’s forced him to create on his own.
Also, Jones said he’s willing to jump into more of a facilitating/point guard role at the next level. In the meantime, he’ll be working on bettering his ball-handling.
