The Ann Arbor Skyline floor-general was already seeing some Division I interest come his way, and could now see his stock rocket as he plays in front of a slew of D1 coaches this spring.
“Air Force has contacted me, and they’ve been sending me a lot of letters in the mail, and they want to meet with me — so that was good to see,” said Ammerman.
“Central Michigan has still been one of the big recruiters so far. And I think that playing with 1Nation will help with recruiting a lot.”
Ammerman has been playing his offseason hoops with the Michigan Gators for awhile, but thought the opportunity to play on the UA circuit was too good to pass up.
“I’d been playing with the Gators since second grade, and it was definitely a tough decision. But I talked with my family and Coach Wade and we just thought that, since I’m really trying to play at the next level, that this would be the best situation for me,” said Ammerman.
“Playing on the Under Armour Circuit is a great opportunity, and it’s a good way to take that next step. We did really well with the Gators, but I think taking that next step is what I needed to do.”
As his junior campaign winds down with the Eagles, Ammerman reflected on what has been an outstanding season.
“I think that going into this junior season I was really trying to work on my ball-handling a lot, just my handles because I know that will be a big part of my game moving forward. And then also my defense, just like defensive positioning and things like that,” said Ammerman.
“And also late-game situations; we’ve a had a lot of close games this season, so I’ve just been working on trying to keep my calm and poise and trying to finish the games as well as I can.”
He added: “I’ve been trying to become a leader on and off the court, and I’ve just been trying to get my teammates involved as much as I can. I’ve been trying to score off-the-dribble a lot too.”
And his goals for the summer? Division I scholarships are a high priority.
“I’m really hoping to get some looks from some Division I coaches. But also, I want to go out there and compete on the UA Circuit, get some wins on the team and hopefully go to the UA finals,” said Ammerman. “And then hopefully I can get some Division I offers this summer.”
