The combo guard pushes it in transition when the ball was in his hands. Good speed in the open floor. Billinger is known as a perimeter shooter with a quick release from three, but there is more to his game than just that. He is winning more consistently off the bounce than we had seen in his high school career. He can get to the basket and scores at the rim with good body control. Also is a solid passer that finds teammates in the half court. D2 prospect.
Billinger spoke with us about his season.
“I feel like my role on this team is to be a true point guard and get everyone involved. I go out there and take what the defense gives me. If that is finding my shooters, getting it to my bigs, or scoring myself.”
What part of the game does he enjoy the most?
“Ball screens. That has been my strength my whole life. Now I definitely feel I have gotten better being able to facilitate off that instead of just being a jump shooter. I feel I can attack right or left off the ball screen and when I get that going I am tough to stop.”
The sophomore transferred from D2 Missouri S&T and feels that a year playing JUCO ball is going to help him long term.
“Getting stronger. Also playing against this type of competition every day in practice and playing with them in games I feel my confidence is getting higher and I am starting to feel more comfortable with the player I am.”
Where do things stand with recruiting?
“So far I have some D2 interest from Quincy and Drury.”
Billinger is originally from Carbondale High School where he was a prep standout.
