The Favorite
McKinley Wright of Champlin Park. With the undefeated record and the head to head win over Brad Davison McKinley still has a leg up on the others but I think it’s pretty obvious that March Madness will decide this. Wright is averaging 22 points, 7.7 rebounds, and eight assists a contest.
Final Five.
Brad Davison of Maple Grove. When it comes to dramatic performances nobody has stepped up more than Davison who has made several buzzer beating jumpers. His team is 21-2 and in position for a state run. Brad is putting up 25.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game plus has recently went over the career 2,000 point milestone and is setting individual game records.
Goanar Mar of DeLaSalle. The three time state champion continues to play well and tonight has a massive game against Champlin Park to show what he can do. Mar is averaging a double double highlighted by his 21.6 points per game for the 20-2 Islanders.
Nathan Reuvers of Lakeville North. The Panthers have been to state for five straight years so hurdle one for Nathan is getting back. At 21-2 they are the heavy favorite and are coming off an 89-51 thrashing of Eastview. Reuvers is scoring 25.9 points per game with 12.7 rebounds a contest. A state run is likely what he needs (like the other Class AAAA kids) to bring home the gold.
Spot Five.
Trae Berhow of Watertown-Mayer. With a near double-double average plus six assists a game Berhow has his team at 20-3 and the amount of production he gives his team can be matched by few. Scoring 24 a game.
Jericho Sims of Cristo Rey Jesuit. The state’s most physically explosive player and likely the best highlight reel in the state, Jericho is putting up 25.6 a game for his 16-6 squad.
Theo John of Champlin Park. The impact defender of this state Theo is putting up 14.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 5.3 blocks a game. Most teams do not have a match-up for Theo and his impact on both ends.
Top Ten.
Tywhon Pickford of Maple Grove. State’s top unsigned player is giving the Crimson 21.6 points and 8.3 rebounds a contest.
Isaac Johnson of Mpls North. The North Polars are 24-1 on the year and a big favorite to defend their state crown. Isaac is averaging 23.1 points and 6.7 boards a night.
Jordan Horn of Tartan. Jordan is scoring 18.4 points per game for the 2103 Tartan Titans who are coming off a big win over rival NSP (Jordan had 14).
Deserving.
Myles Hanson of Chaska. Who was snubbed? Who wasn’t? Many people have opinions. Were there some? Were there not? I’m not here to state that list but I do feel like Myles Hanson was the most deserving of those not on the final ten. His Hawks are 18-5 and Myles is coming off a 48 point game that helped get his average to 24.3 a game.
