When asked if he’s aware of any college interest, Belcher replied, “Honestly, no. Not at all. My coach, he’s just telling us that we have to make a big run down to States.”
In the meantime, the high school senior has been applying to colleges.
“I’m just staying humble. Still working. Waiting for things to open up for me,” Belcher said.
Belcher clarified that he’d be interested in walking on at a program, if the right opportunity presents itself.
It’s not hard to imagine Belcher contributing to a college program. First of all, Belcher can shoot it. He’s better off the catch-and-shoot. Even so, coming in and stretching the defense with the second unit is valuable.
However, a lot of guys can shoot. Where Belcher separates himself is with his hustle and leadership. This season, as a senior, he’s embraced the role of “the glue guy.”
“Both on and off, basically just being the leader. You know, just stepping up when it’s big times. Just talking to my team. Telling them what we need to do before the games; what we need to do in practice,” Belcher explained.
Belcher credits his predecessors that he’s seen pass through the Rogers program, for instilling him with wisdom during their time.
Besides the intangibles, Belcher affects the game with penetration when he’s not feeling it from deep.
For those who are yet to discover Belcher, which is seemingly most people, you can catch him in action tonight at Waite High School for the Toledo City Championship against Bowsher.
Following that, Rogers will compete in the Bowling Green District of the Division II playoffs.
