Thomas is a strong, quick 5’11 2020 point guard that plays with an aggressive mentality. He can get to the bucket, create for himself and his team and can stick outside shots as well.
He spent the past offseason competing for KC Blackout and focused on improving his outside shot. That has carried over this season at the high school level as he has helped lead a young Topeka Trojans team to an 8-10 record.
“We are an athletic team that can run the floor, have a lot of scorers and we have multiple players that can catch and fire at any time,” he said. “As an individual I bring energy to the team and can scorer and make plays for others.”
A strong defender, Thomas often is matched up with opposing team’s best guards. His best game this season came against Manhattan as he finished with 30 points 8 for 12 from the fiend and 11 for 12 from the line. He says the highlight of the season so far was a win over Washburn Rural.
“Them (Washurn) having the season they are having and us being able to come through and finish a game at home was big for us moving on,” Thomas said.
Thomas says the biggest influence besides his dad has been Tony Barksdale.
“He’s helped me on my creativity and just different moves. He’s helped me understand the game more to slow down and let the game come to me,” Thomas said.
Thomas says he hasn’t yet drawn any college interest but will be playing this summer for Pray and Play, a grassroots team based out of Wichita, Kan., and will be competing in several high-profile Adidas events.
