Region 1
Gainesville-P.K. Yonge at Jacksonville-Providence
The Stallions of Providence (25-3), who are ranked fourth in 4A, come into this regional final winning their last three games by an average of 44 points. It’s safe to say they’ve hit their stride. The Blue Wave (19-7) are coming off a two-point regional semis win against Bishop Snyder, a team Providence beat by 40 in the district championship. Sophomore guard Byron Smith (14.2 PPG), junior forward Will Banks IV (6.4 RPG) and the rest of the gang will have to come up huge and play the best team basketball of the year to slay the mighty Stallions.
Region 4
Miami-Florida Christian at Miami-Archbishop Carroll
Familiar foes. The Archbishop Bulldogs (28-2) will host the Florida Christian Patriots (19-11) less than two weeks after they beat the Pats by 42 in the district championship game. The Dawgs are ranked second in the class, but face an F.C. team that bounced back after that title loss to beat Palmer Trinity on the road by 17 in the regional semis. Look for seniors James Keller (15.7 PPG) and Kristian Valdes (13.3 PPG) to lead the Pats the best way they can.
Region 2
Orlando-First Academy at Seffner Christian
First Academy (26-1) suffered their lone loss against Edgewater by one point, but remain the highest-ranked team in class 4A. The Crusaders of Seffner Christian (23-6) handled their semifinal game well against Orangewood Christian, posting a 42-point win. I imagine a tight match, especially considering the eight senior Crusaders who will be playing their last home game in a Seffner jersey. They’ll be sure to fight until the final buzzer.
Region 3
Ft. Lauderdale-Westminster Academy at Weston-Sagemont
The Westminster Lions (26-4) are coming off a 42-point regional semifinal win against Miami Country Day, but they also are 5-0 on the road, this year. They travel to Sagemont (22-6), who happens to be 12-0 at home, this season. The Lions have two brothers in Anthony & Paul Atkinson Jr. who are looking to keep their road streak moving, while ending another.
