Player of the Week: Spencer Lamb
Now that his older brother Jackson has moved on, it’s sophomore Spencer Lamb’s time to shine in Nodaway Valley.
And last week, the 6-foot-3 wing shined bright in two games for the Wolverines, averaging 31 points and 17 rebounds per game.
First, was a 27 point, 17 rebound performance in a narrow loss to Mount Ayr.
“That was a really close game and I was shooting the ball really well, and rebounding well,” said Lamb. “And everything just seemed to go for me.”
That was just child’s play compared to what he would accomplish in his next game, during a 28 point win over Southeast Warren.
He scored a career-high 35 points in that one, and again snared 17 rebounds. But he also added 4 assists, 4 blocks and 2 steals in the win.
“That game had a lot to do with confidence,” said Lamb. “Towards the end of the season I’ve just been able to find the ball better rebounding, and that turns into points, because I’ll get offensive rebounds and put them back for points. I think I must have had five tip-ins that game.”
Lamb added: “I’m definitely not looking to pad the stat-sheet and I didn’t really really realize I was doing it. At halftime somebody said I had 12 rebounds, and I was like ‘whoa’ — I didn’t even know.”
His huge week has solidified him as one of the state’s stock-risers in the 2019 class. Lamb is now averaging 18.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game this season.
As for the runaway win in the Player of the Week poll: he has his mother, and Facebook to thank for that.
“My coach didn’t even know about it until a few days after. I think it was just my mom posting something on Facebook, and I have a good support system, I guess,” said Lamb. “And then from there it just got shared around.”
