“This summer I worked really hard on getting stronger and my jump shot from the three-point line,” said Oxford. “That’s made the biggest difference because I can get it off at any time, which in return makes it easy to get to the hole.”
Oxford stands near 6’2, with great toughness and a great physical build. When at his best, Oxford is driving to the basket. Last night Oxford saw his hard work pay off breaking a long time standing school record in points for his career. With a 19 points performance Oxford broke a 15 year old record previously set by James Nave at 1421. Oxford now has 1429 for his career and a couple of more games to add to it.
This year the Claremore Zebras have entered the top five in Class 5A with a 18-2 record. Oxford was confident coming into the season they would have a good year.
“We knew going in we had our top three scorers back and we were senior loaded,” said Oxford. “All the hard work we have put in with summer ball, weight room and off season is finally paying off.”
The personal success for Oxford at Claremore is due to several different things. One person Oxford credits is his coach.
“Coach Nolan allowing me to just play my game,” said Oxford. “Always having the green light and having great teammates around me has been key.”
Colleges that are recruiting Oxford include Arkansas Pine Bluff, St Mary’s, Ottawa, Oklahoma Wesleyan, Tabor, UCO, NSU and Fort Scott CC.
The biggest goal Oxford has this year? Short and sweet, to win the state championship. Oxford projects to the NCAA Division II level.
