Northstar Hoops Minnesota National Guard — Team of the Week Feb 6-11
Here are this week’s options for Team of the Week presented by Minnesota National Guard:
Perham
The Yellowjackets picked up an excellent win Saturday, beating Eden Valley-Watkins in the Winter Lakes Classic in Alexandria. Perham also blew out Frazee earlier in the week, sending the team to 18-2 on the season.
Stewartville
This one came out nowhere. Stewartville won eight games all of last season. Things can change quickly as the Tigers are currently riding a four-game winning streak. Stewartville picked up two big wins last week, blowing out a solid Byron team Tuesday before upsetting Lake City Thursday. There was no letdown game Friday either as the Tigers beat Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton.
Waconia
Waconia apparently just needed January to end. The Wildcats went 3-6 in January and have quickly righted the ship in February. Waconia picked up one of the big upset wins of the week Wednesday when the Wildcats beat Orono 81-69 behind a combined 58 points from Dillon Whittaker, Nick Fulford and Carter Damlo. The Wildcats backed that win up with a 71-60 win over Holy Family Catholic.
Columbia Heights
A team that handed Waconia one of those six January losses, the Hylanders are rolling right now. Winners of nine games in a row, Columbia Heights beat St. Anthony Village in a game with pivotal section implications Tuesday before beating Fridley — another potential section opponent — Thursday.
East Ridge
Another team seemingly peaking at the right time, the Raptors’ last loss was at the end of January to that on-fire Columbia Heights team. East Ridge has since racked up four wins in a row which includes a 75-69 upset win over Wayzata Tuesday. The Raptors then went to Roseville and beat the Raiders 60-59.
