Northstar Hoops Minnesota National Guard — Team of the Week Feb 13-18
Postseason basketball is right around the corner. That means every game is incredibly important as teams want to be hitting their stride down the stretch. That also creates opportunities for massive season-changing wins.
Here are this week’s options for Team of the Week presented by Minnesota National Guard:
Hopkins
The demise of the Royals was greatly exaggerated. Okay so nobody actually said anything about a Royals demise but Hopkins did look oddly of-this-world earlier in the year. The Royals suffered a few early losses and were blown out by Wayzata. They got their revenge Friday night, beating the Warriors 70-62. Then they came back the next day and beat a good Woodbury team in dominating fashion. Watch out.
New Prague
The Royals had an undefeated week and picked up two solid wins, improving to 20-3 on the season. They bounced back from a loss to Orono the week prior and beat Delano – another top Class AAA team – in a pivotal conference showdown. They blew out Hutchinson then capped off the week with a win over Minnetonka in the Community Clash.
Chaska
Talk about on fire. Chaska’s won 10 games in a row and won three games last week. The big one was on Tuesday when the Hawks beat Bloomington Jefferson in Bloomington in a game with huge section implications. The Hawks also beat Benilde-St. Margaret’s and St. Michael-Albertville to cap off the week.
St. Thomas Academy
How about the Cadets? They went into last week on a five-game winning streak but none of them were against a team with a winning record. They beat two teams not only with winning records, but state aspirations last week. The Cadets beat Mahtomedi on the road Tuesday and backed that up with a win over North St. Paul.
Breck
The Mustangs picked up two great wins last week and have been playing great ball for about a month now. Breck beat Maranatha Christian to open the week but made a big mark with blowout wins over Heritage Christian Friday and Rochester Lourdes Saturday. Both of those wins were on the road too. What a week.
