This might be the last year that the LHSAA features all of the top teams in the state, with rumors of the biggest select and non-select schools leaving the LHSAA and creating their own athletic association. But we can put all of that out of our minds for the next three weeks as the best teams in each class and division duke it out until there is only one team remaining to be crowned the state champion. We here at Prep Hoops LA are going to be breaking down every single playoff game and making predictions for each. We are now moving on to Division IV
16. Ascension Christian vs. 17. Hanson Memorial
Hanson Memorial has played the tougher out-of-district slate, and is coming into the playoffs on a two game winning streak, so I am giving them the slight edge in a game between two teams with a combined record this year of 14-40.
PHLA Pick: Hanson Memorial
12. Vermillion Catholic vs. 21. Highland Baptist
Because of the Select/Non-Select separation in the LHSAA this season, Highland Baptist made the playoffs this season without a single win. The amazing thing is that they are somehow a higher seed with no wins than St. Edmund with 2 wins. Either way I don’t see Highland Baptist starting their winning ways in the playoffs
PHLA Pick: Vermillion Catholic
13. St. Fredrick vs. 20. Ecole Classique
Ecole Classique has a much better record than their seeding would indicate, and St. Fredrick has los 14 of their last 16, including six straight. That can’t be good for their confidence heading into the playoff.
PHLA Pick: Ecole Classique
14. Ascension Catholic vs. 19. False River
Ascension Catholic has some strong guard play, and I just don’t see False River being able to match the guard play that Ascension can throw out.
PHLA Pick: Ascension Catholic
11. St. John vs. 22. St. Edmund
St. Edmund somehow has 2 wins, yet was ranked as the worst team in Division IV by a pretty wide margin. I don’t see St. Edmund getting a third win anytime this season.
PHLA Pick: St. John
15. Cedar Creek vs. 18. Catholic-P.C.
Honestly, I think this game has the potential to be the best opening round game in Division IV, as well as having the two best overall teams that are playing in the first round. It’s a shame that the winner is going to run into the buzzsaw that is LCA. I’m going to give the smallest of edges to Cedar Creek, just because they are at home.
PHLA Pick: Cedar Creek
