That means that we are heading down the final stretch of the season here in Louisiana, and within the next two weeks, we will be crowning 12 brand new state champions. If you read the first round previews, you will have seen that we have hit more than 80% of our predictions. Now I’m not a betting man, but I like those odds. We are going to be continuing those previews and predictions here, moving on to Class 3A
- Peabody vs. 17. Westlake
This is the only game in 3A that got played a day earlier than anticipated, and it finished in a rather unsurprising way, with Peabody getting a big win 86-54. Best of luck to anyone in 3A trying to take down Peabody.
PHLA Pick: Peabody
- Donaldsonville vs. 9. Jennings
Not very often when a team scores 100 points in a playoff game do they only win by 19 points, but that is what happened to Jennings in the first round. I think that their defense is going to end up being an issue against a tougher competition, as it did when they played Peabody earlier in the year and gave up 112 points.
PHLA Pick: Donaldsonville
- Madison vs. 12. Iowa
Madison was able to start the year off very strong, going 15-1. However, most of those wins came against smaller schools and teams that didn’t even make the playoffs. Once district started, Madison only went 5-7. Iowa might not be the team to pull the upset, but they have beaten tough teams this season.
PHLA Pick: Iowa
- Ville Platte vs. 20. Amite
Amite was able to pull off the first round upset against Northwest. However, Ville Platte is a much different beast. There is a big difference between the top four teams in 3A and the rest of the pack. I think this Cinderella story comes to an end as quick as it began.
PHLA Pick: Ville Platte
- Carroll vs. 19. Richwood
A 15 point upset for Richwood over Patterson in the first round is impressive. However I don’t think Richwood is going to have the size on the frontline to be able to pull off the upset over 6’8 Larry Owens and Carroll.
PHLA Pick: Carroll
- South Beauregard vs. 11. Union Parish
Once again, I think there is a big difference between the top four and the rest of the pack. Union Parish might not have a ton of individual talent, but they play very well as a five man unit, and will guard the hell out of you. I think Union Parish is going to be able to put the clamps on South Beauregard.
PHLA Pick: Union Parish
- Baker vs. 26. Port Allen
Port Allen has some pretty talented guards, but I don’t think that they will be able to handle Baker’s transfer student Dexter Dennis who is averaging close to 25 ppg and 15 rpg.
PHLA Pick: Baker
- Wossman vs. 15. Brusly
Wossman started out the season on a rough start, going 2-7 to start the year. However, every single one of those games were against teams that ended up earning a top four seed for their class. Wossman’s tough schedule has prepared them for now, and it is going to come in handy now that we are in playoffs.
PHLA Pick: Wossman
