Teams Should Be Afraid Of Michigan City
I think Michigan City has been a team all year long that has been overlooked although their record should speak for itself. Their big win by 17 points over Valparaiso should help to prove that. Merrillville is up next and they are plenty of capable of beating them. Same as it would be against Crown Point if those two teams make it to the Championship game. Their depth of talent is underrated.
Fort Wayne North Might Have Some Bumps Along The Way
I’m not really worried that North only beat a pretty bad DeKalb team by 7 points. I kind of figured they would have these games. They aren’t the most consistent team but the hope is that when they face a real opponent they turn it all the way up. They get Northop next and they should just be another tuneup before the main event against Snider, hopefully, on Saturday night.
Connersville Has All Of The Luck
Like we didn’t know Connersville was going to have another overtime game. That makes about 30 this season. Really, they are a good team but they have a lot of luck on their side because they aren’t the deepest team and that will show as they play better and better competition. This Sectional, though, won’t be the real test. That comes in Regionals. However, they better not use all of their luck before they really need it.
Lawrence North Gets Revenge
Warren Central had it all going in pretty much every game this season. They were so good defensively that I almost bought in. My issue was I didn’t trust the offense enough that when their defense failed, they would be able to outscore their opponent in a shootout. That is kind of what it looks like on paper as Lawrence North gets revenge for their two losses during the regular season. It was only 60-54 but giving up 60 points is a lot for this team. Still have no idea how far Lawrence North will go but this is a step in the right direction for a team that has had a million bumps in the road this season.
Roncalli Comes From Behind To Beat Perry Meridian
Who really knows how well Roncalli can be without Christian Stewart but they have always struck me as a deep team. They have size and guards and shooter and pretty much everything you need to win a game. The problem with losing Stewart was that he was the leader, the heart and soul of the team. To come from behind and beat Perry Meridian, that shows a little bit of how deep this team is. I don’t think they can beat Ben Davis without Stewart but they should be able to beat Southport on Friday to give themselves the chance.
Brownsburg’s Storybook Second Half Keeps Going
When I watched Brownsburg early in the season, they were just not a good team. They have the pieces and you liked it a little bit but they weren’t a finished product. However, they have just found ways to win the whole second half of the season. They aren’t beating up on teams, but just sneaking by. They did that again to Terre Haute North. They are like Connersville with their luck and who knows how long it will last but for now, for now it is just fun.
Jeffersonville Loses With Coach Suspended
Right before the Purdue/IU game and Bethel/IWU, and the first night of Sectionals is probably a good time to dump news. Well right before the start of their game, it was announced that Jeffersonville’s head coach had been suspended for at least the first game of the Sectional. That is a bad time to get suspended. It isn’t known for what and we won’t speculate but the result is a first round loss to Seymour in overtime. I’m guessing if Coach Luce is coaching this game, it isn’t even a game.
