The 2016-17 high school basketball season in Kansas is starting to wind down with postseason play looming.
We’ve had some time to discover some risers, players who have put themselves on the radar with strong starts to their respective seasons.
Today we’ll take a look at some of the 2017 wings who have really elevated their stock early in their senior seasons:
Will McKee, 6’6, SF, St. James Academy
We are pretty high on McKee’s game. He has good size and length and is an athletic forward that is a strong rebounder and finisher around the bucket. He’s an improving outside shooter but will likely find a home at the next level.
Jariah Taylor, 6’5, SF, 2017, Wichita South
Really like Taylor’s game. He is a long, athletic wing player that plays much bigger than his listed height. He can play above the rim, has a smooth outside jumper and a quick first step. He’s an explosive player with a lot of upside.
Jalen Taylor, 6’5, SF, 2017, Piper
Taylor has helped lead Piper to a 12-3 season and a No. 3 ranking in the latest 4A rankings. An athletic player with good size, Taylor is averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds and has thrown down a slew of dunks this season.
Sloan Thomsen, 6’6, SF, Free State
Thomsen has terrific size and a big frame and has a smooth all-around game. Can shoot from the outside and has the ability to score inside or outside. He’s hearing from several colleges at various levels and will likely land at a D2 schools.
Avante Williams, 6’2, SF/SG, Shawnee Mission North
Williams is an aggressive, athletic player with a wide range of skills at the offensive end of the court. He can handle the ball a little and is seemingly always in attack mode at the offensive end. He’s a little undersized for a forward, but makes up for it with his hard-nosed play and athletic ability.
