Here is the preview.
Top four teams (one from each region)
Temple Christian
The Soldiers (23-3) snuck past Christ’s Church 62-55 in overtime to win the district championship. Senior Donald Knight has been the best thing for Temple Christian, averaging 24.3 points per game. Senior Levi Banks is averaging 11.3 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. Seniors Brent Adams and Zecquille Harrison and sophomore Kadarius Harrison contribute plenty. The Soldiers host Tallavana Christian in the region semifinal.
Bayshore Christian
A convincing 79-56 win over St. John Lutheran in the district final. The Faith Warriors (19-3) are led by junior David Santiago with 12.4 points per game. Freshman Jeremiah Wicks (11.8 PPG) and Christian Anderson (11.0 PPG) are two other players that average double digits. Junior De’Aundre Kitt is averaging 8.8 PPG. In region two, North Florida Educational provides the biggest problem for Bayshore Christian.
Central Florida Christian
Junior Dante Treacy is averaging a team-best 16.2 points per game. The Eagles (23-5) went to Vanguard and pulled out a 43-40 district final win. Seniors Sebastian Brown and DeLazarus Keys each average over nine points per game. Senior Zen Goodridge, Kendrick Brown and Visual Russell all are posting six points per game. Central Florida Christian have won 17 straight and will have to deal with Florida Prep in region three.
Miami Christian
This is a scrappy group. After losing in the region final to eventual champion Grandview Prep last season, Miami Christian is back with a loaded roster. The Victors (26-2) cruised past Westwood Christian 89-69 on the road in the district final. Seniors Ed Camacho, Josh Rosario and Felipe Haase are key cogs for Miami Christian. Junior guard Neftaly Alvarez
Sleeper teams to watch
Grandview Prep
The Pride won the 3A state title a year ago. With Matt Schner and Eric Snow now seniors, Grandview Prep (22-3) has a chance to get to the promise land. However, Miami Christian is in the same region and that is not an easy to team to beat. Senior Jemal Ellick and junior Roy Jones III are other key pieces for the Pride.
Vanguard
At 17-3, Vanguard is in a tough position with a region semifinal matchup with Florida Prep. The Panthers have junior James Lee leading the way along with seniors Albis Amaya, Dennis Gonzales and Ben Davis. Vanguard has to get by Florida Prep on Thursday on the road and if they can there is a run to be made there.
Atlantic Christian
Justin Nicholson is the top piece for the Saints (20-4) who lost to Grandview Prep in the district title game. Atlantic Christian has been a steady group in 2A and this is a nice team. However, the Saints must beat Miami Christian on Thursday night in the region semifinal.
