Continue ReadingNorthside High School has been absolutely rolling this season, they have no reached 26-0 and have a much anticipated matchup with Fairmont HS in the 3rd round of the NCHSAA tournament. There is history between these two teams without a doubt and the last time they faced each other in the 2015 State tournament didn’t leave a very good taste in the mouth of Northside with their squad losing in overtime. Well this is a year new and the Monarchs are holding the #2 seed so the game will be played in their building, however we all know that Fairmont will bring their A game, both teams can let it fly from deep so they key will be guard play . Let’s take a closer look at some of the players that may dictate what happens on Saturday night in this matchup:
Northside HS Senior Guard Zach Hobbs: Hobbs this season has become Northside HS all-time leading scorer and has stepped into the leadership role for the team very smoothly. He’s a knock down shooter from deep and can get into the paint just about whenever he wants, on the defensive end he brings effort and intensity. If Northside wants to advance they will need their usual production from Hobbs and trust me, he’s more than ready for this game.
Fairmont HS Senior Guard Jarique Moore: Jarique is averaging over 18 Points per game, he’s got a very quick first step and plays the game with strength and heart, although he isn’t the tallest player on the floor his speed is what helps him to get the job done with ease. His defense is what really creates his offense as he come up with steals that can help led the squad into transition for easy buckets, for Fairmont to win they must force turnovers and get in transition.
Northside HS Junior Guard Kenny Dye: Northside must be smart with the ball and that will fall on the shoulders of this young man who is more than capable of handling his business. He can knock down shots from mid and understands the Northside system very well as he has been starting since he was a freshman.
Fairmont HS Senior Julius Caulder: Although he is a football player this young man can flat out play the game of basketball at a high level, he is a three point specialist and does a good job of helping Fairmont space the floor. If Fairmont wants to pull off the upset he will need to have a big time night scoring the ball, currently he’s averaging just under 14 Point per game.
