I will be honoring several all-conference teams in the Dayton area. Today I am honoring my 1st team all-conference for the GWOC American North divison. (Note: The GWOC is split into four separate divisions: American North, American South, National East and National West. This specific article will focus on one division and future articles will cover the other three).
American North
Isaiah Gable (Greenville)- 22.2 PPG, 50.4% FG, 7.7 REB, 2.9 AST
Isaiah was a key player this year for the Green Wave. He can score from the paint, from the mid-range, or from three point range and he usually scores in large amounts. Of the 19 games played this year, only 5 times did Isaiah score less than 20 points during a game. Isaiah has been a major component of Greenville’s success over the past 4 seasons, and will definitely be missed next season.
Andre Gordon (Sidney)- 20.1 PPG, 5.9 AST, 4.3 REB, 2.7 STL
Andre has been one of the top players all season in the GWOC. Only a sophomore, he ranked in the top 5 in the league in scoring, assists, and steals per game. Andre is extremely athletic and plays more like a forward because of his attack-the-rim mentality. Many of his points come in the paint, but he is also capable of finding the open man, especially when he lures double teams or strong help side defense against him. I expect Andre to continue to improve and possibly be the top player in Ohio by his senior year.
Ratez Roberts (Sidney)- 11.2 PPG, 6.7 REB, 67.1% FG, 2.7 BLK
Ratez was another key reason why Sidney basketball was so talented this season. Ratez was one of the top shot-blockers in the conference this season and also hovered near the top in field goal percentage. Although he can score, defense is where Ratez made a name for himself. He plays physical on the ball defense and isn’t afraid to body up an opponent’s post player either. With Ratez also being a sophomore, expect him to continue to improve and expect Sidney basketball to continue to rise in the ranks.
Nate Monnin (Piqua)- 11.5 PPG, 9.3 REB, 1.3 BLK, 1.4 AST
Nate averaged nearly a double-double for the season at Piqua. Being a football player gave Nate the toughness and physicality to be one of the best rebounders in the conference all season. Although Piqua may not have performed as well as they had hoped, Nate showed great leadership for the Indians and has been a key reason for Piqua winning 3 of their last 4 games. After the season ends, Nate will continue his athletic career at Kent State University playing football.
Miles Joiner (Butler)- 17.4 PPG, 7.7 REB, 1.5 AST, 55.5% FG
A former member of the Chaminade-Julienne Eagles, Miles came to Butler for his senior season and had an outstanding year. The Aviators improved from a 4-19 record in 2016 to 12-9 this season and Miles was a huge reason why. He is an athletic forward who is one of the top scorers in the conference as well as a top rebounder. Not known for his outside shot, Miles instead dominated teams in the paint. His football background is a key reason for this. Miles will play football at Youngstown State University once the season ends.
Aaron Rich (Greenville)- 16.1 PPG, 7.7 REB, 61.5% FG, 1.7 BLK
Aaron was another big name player for Greenville alongside Isaiah Gable. A defensive player, Aaron was one of the top players in terms of blocks per game. Not only can he defend, but Aaron also finds ways to score. He has a nice outside shot and an even nicer midrange jumper as well. His rebounding is also impressive and Aaron always made sure to attack the boards if he wasn’t scoring for the Green Wave. He too will be missed after the season as Greenville will have to try and replace Aaron and Isaiah Gable for next season.
