This district features one of the most competitive groups of teams in the state with defending state champion Chaminade and two-time Final Four participant SLUH among the field. Here is a look at the district:
Top Seed: SLUH – The Jr. Billikens played a rugged schedule and struggled a bit at times, but they got things going at the right time to win the Metro Catholic Conference title, get to the 20-victory mark and the No. 1 seed in the process. UMKC signee Brandon McKissic leads the way with his leadership and big-shot making. 2017 guard Anthony Hughes is one of the most improved players in the state and their is plenty of size inside.
Top Challenger: Chaminade – Entering February, the Red Devils were arguably the best team in the state and a solid bet to repeat as state championship. Then came a small tailspin in which Chaminade lost three of four games, which cost them a four-peat championship in the Metro Catholic Conference. If they can get the ship righted, the Red Devils are still talented enough to make a deep run, especially with the trio of 6’4″ 2017 Reggie Crawford, 6’7″ 2017 Jericole Hellems and 6’6″ 2018 Karrington Davis.
Darkhorse: Ritenour or Ladue – Both of these teams have enjoyed excellent seasons, but they just happen to be in the same district with two of the state’s heavyweight programs in Chaminade and SLUH. Ladue has a senior-laden group led by 6’6″ River Rhoads, 6’2″ Tate Hotz and 6’1″ Zach Bush. Ritenour plays an up-tempo style of play with 5’8″ 2017 point guard Robyion Hughes as the catalyst.
