It promises to be a very competitive tournament with four excellent teams capable of taking home the championship trophy. New to the district is Parkway West, who advanced to the state quarterfinals a year ago. Sullivan, Borgia and Pacific are also very capable teams. Here is a look at District 6:
Top Seed: Sullivan – The Eagles enter the postseason on a nine-game winning streak which includes winning the championship of the Four Rivers Conference. They are led by 6’3″ 2017 forward Jared Woodcock, who is averaging close to 20 points a game. 2019 point guard Cody McKinney is a solid point guard and floor leader while 6’4″ 2017 forward Caleb Stack and 5’11” 2018 guard Caleb Todd can also get buckets. It is a well-balanced team.
Top Challenger: Parkway West – After advancing to the quarterfinals in ’16, the Longhorns have successfully rebuilt a strong supporting cast around 6’8″ Yale signee Wyatt Yess, who has carried the team with his all-around talent and leadership. 2017 guard Nathan Hughes has stepped up and become a consistent scorer while 6’7″ 2018 forward Jack Gieseking has developed into a solid low post player.
Darkhorse: Borgia – The Knights have been on an impressive late-season run, which makes them a threat, as well as their long tradition of winning in March. Borgia features an impressive inside-outside combination in 6’8″ 2017 forward Alex Movila and 6’2″ 2017 guard Gus Kleekamp. Movila averages 20 points a game while Kleekamp averages 11 points, five rebounds and eight assists a game. 2018 forward Hunter Mehler is a knock down 3-point shooter.
