The Bearcats (17-11) led by 20 points with just about six minutes left in the game before Franklin County starting mounting a fearless comeback that eventually fell short.
Anderson County led most of the game and jumped out to an early 26-10 lead after the first quarter. They went into halftime leading 39-26. The Flyers of Franklin County did manage to outscore the Bearcats 29-17 in the final quarter.
MVP
G-Cobe Penny, Anderson County (2018) – Penny led all players with 29 points, shooting 10-15 from the field (4-7 from beyond the arc). Penny also grabbed a team high 10 rebounds.
Best Under the Radar Performance
G-Diablo Stewart, Franklin County (2019) – The young point guard from Franklin County saw ups and downs throughout the game, which included seeing a few shots hit nothing but air, in turn igniting the Anderson County faithful to give him the classic “air ball” chant each time he touched the ball. Stewart responded fearlessly by leading his team with 18 points and assisted in Franklin County’s last ditch effort to cut a 20 point lead with six minutes remaining down to 4 when the final horn sounded.
Best Spot-Up Shooter
G-John Paul Garmon, Anderson County (2017) – Garmon finished with 15 points, netting two 3-point baskets and shooting 7-11 from the free throw line. Garmon is shooting 40% from beyond the arc and made the 3rd most 3’s on the team.
Best Rebounder
F-Christian Gritton, Anderson County (2018) – Although teammate Cobe Penny ended the night with the most rebounds on the team, Gritton showed the most ability to box his man out and find the ball off the rim. Contributing 5 rebounds against Franklin County, Gritton averaged 10.3 rebounds per game on the season, and his ability to find the ball off the rim is a big reason why.
Best Hustle
F-Anthony Valentine, Franklin County (2017) – Valentine could be found everywhere the ball was in this game. Showing a real knack for finding the ball for rebounds, getting on the floor, saving the ball from going out of bounds, Valentine is a high school coaches favorite player. Valentine also showed the ability to really finish well around the rim on the offensive end. He finished with 11 points on the night.
