East Chicago Central: Winner
The two teams that East Chicago probably didn’t want to see early in this Sectional were Lowell and Lake Central. Lowell has played them so well and Lake Central just beat them. Now, not only do they get the bye, Lowell and Lake Central have to open the tournament with each other. Could give them a boost heading into their first game.
Crown Point: Winner
Sectional 2 is a tough one but for Crown Point, the next three toughest teams in your Sectional are all on the other side. Valpo, Michigan City, and Merrillville are all on the top half and now you only have to face one of them. Crown Point also drew Hobart to start so that works and the toughest team you’ll face in the next round is probably Chesterton. Could easily see them get back to the Regional round.
Fort Wayne North: Winner
Not that Fort Wayne North needed any help but drawing DeKalb with Northrop waiting in the second round is just a little too easy. Easy to see them walk through the first two games before possibly getting a rematch with Snider in the final. The issue here is are those games early on going to keep them focused enough to not slip up against Snider or whoever on Saturday.
Indianapolis Roncalli: Winner
Missing Christian Stewart is hurting them but they just drew a magical hand pulling Perry Meridian and then Southport. Those should be pretty decent chances for them to win. Then, Pike and Ben Davis paired up on the other side is just icing on the cake. Only having to play one of those teams and in the final could give them the confidence to have a shot.
Terre Haute South: Winner
For South, they don’t have to face Brownsburg, Terre Haute North, or Plainfield until the final. That is pretty solid. Avon is a little bit of a tricky game to start but as long as DeAvion Washington and/or Jaylen Minnett come to play they should move easily through the first two rounds. Looking for back-to-back Sectional Championships just got a lot easier.
Castle: Winner
Noth that there was a bad draw for Castle here as they are in one of the worst Sectionals in 4A but to get either 4-win Evansville North or 6-win Evansville Central after their bye round. Then, the only other teams with double-digit wins gets put on the opposite side. This could be an easy Friday/Saturday set of games for them.
Pendleton Heights: Loser
Not really sure if there was anyway that this Sectional was going to end up going well for Pendleton but to draw Greenfield-Central with New Castle waiting is tough. And, if somehow they get past all of that, you are likely going to face Connersville in the final. The hope was you could get Richmond and maybe New Castle and Connersville would play on the other side but no dice.
Lawrence North: Loser
Probably the one team you didn’t want to see in the first game if you were Lawrence North is Warren Central. Well, that is who you got. The already have a pair of losses to WC and the second one they lost in overtime. If, you do pull off the win over Warren Central, then you will have to contend with North Central again in the finals because it seems like a little bit of a tall task to think that LC or Cathedral is going to have a great chance of pulling the upset.
Bloomington South: Loser
The hottest team in this Sectional right now is Columbus North who has won 9 of their last 10 games. Their one loss was to Bloomington South but only by 7 in a low scoring game. This will also be their third matchup this year which is always a little tricky. After that, South would have to face crosstown rival Bloomington North and if they make it to the final, they might have to play Shelbyville. About the toughest draw that could happen.
