Continue ReadingOn Sunday, the IHSAA had their Sectional Draw for the upcoming State Tournament. Now, it is time to dive into each Sectional in the state. We continue on with our look at each in our Regional breakdown.
Sectional 29: Greensburg (Host): Batesville, Franklin County, Greensburg, Lawrenceburg, Madison Consolidated, Rushville Consolidated, South Dearborn.
Breakdown: In Sectional 29, we have a really good but young Sectional. Rushville lost most of their talent last season and are still in rebuilding mode. Greensburg is good and the most likely winner of the Sectional but they are also young. They will get also get the bye game and will face either 6-16 Madison or 5-18 South Dearborn in the semifinal game. Look for a Batesville vs. Lawrenceburg game in the other semifinal. Batesville is the only team in this Sectional to beat Greensburg but Greensburg returned the favor in early January.
Sectional 30: Salem (Host): Brownstown Central, Charlestown, Corydon Central, North Harrison, Salem, Scottsburg, Silver Creek.
Breakdown: In Sectional 30, you have one of the toughest Sectional in 3A nearly every year and this year is no exception. Brownstown Central just lost their first game of the season in late February. They won 21 games this season but aren’t the only 20-game winner as Salem also reached that mark. Those two teams got put on opposite sides of the draw and the next two best teams, Silver Creek and Charlestown, are also split up. It is pretty balanced and with the high level of talent, this should be interesting. The key stat to watch is Brownstown’s 6-0 record against Sectional opponents. No one has actually beaten them yet.
Sectional 31: Washington (Host): Jasper, Pike Central, Princeton Community, Southridge, Vincennes Lincoln, Washington.
Breakdown: In Sectional 31, you have one of the hottest teams in the state in Washington heading into March. They have won 14 of 15 to end the year and look like they are clicking on all cylinders. However, 16-6 Jasper is their first round opponent and won’t be an easy win. Look for that winner to have an edge moving forward against either Southridge, Vincennes Lincoln, or Princeton. Any one of those teams could breakout in the opposite side.
Sectional 32: Boonville (Host): Boonville, Evansville Bosse, Evansville Reitz Memorial, Gibson Southern, Heritage Hills, Mt. Vernon.
Breakdown: In Sectional 32, you have the 3A runner-up last season in Evansville Bosse. They aren’t as crisp as they were last year and haven’t finished off the season as well as they would have liked but they are dangerous in a single-elimination tournament like this. They get Gibson Southern first but haven’t played each other yet. If Bosse gets past that, they would get a 13-9 Evansville Memorial team. On the opposite side, look for Heritage Hills to escape and get a chance at the Sectional Championship.
